You wouldn’t put a Billboard in the Basement, would you???
August 18, 2009
According to a CareerBuilder.com survey, 22% of workers laid off during the past 12 months have found work at smaller firms.
Small Businesses have the opportunity to attract talent at a rate that is competitive with the biggest firms out there. This is great news, if you have a plan in place to make sure they know who you are, what your company does, and why it’s a great place to work. Attracting talent is a matter of creating a great message and making sure people see it.
Step 1 is to make sure your message is compelling. An easy place to start is to figure out who your best employees are, and then figuring out why they love working for your company.
Step 2 is to make sure the talent that is available hears and sees your message. You wouldn’t want to put a billboard in the basement!
Step 3 is to make sure you have the process in place to make contact with those who see and are interested in your offering and get them in the door.
Advertising is only 1 step in the process. Unfortunately, a lot of companies choose to make that the only step.
Make sure your message is attracting the right people, and that once your message gets out there, you are ready to benefit from the advertising efforts you have expended.
